Job Description & Responsibilities

The Addictions Counsellor and Program Development Coordinator at Envision Mind Care plays a critical role in providing comprehensive addiction counseling services and supporting the development and planning of in-patient and out-patient programs within our private mental health clinic. This position requires expertise in addiction counseling, strong program development skills, and a passion for helping individuals overcome substance abuse and addiction.

Responsibilities:

  1. Addiction Counseling:

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' addiction history, mental health status, and treatment needs. Assessing substance-use disorders, including differential assessment of concurrent disorders.

    • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating evidence-based counselling techniques and interventions.

    • Provide counselling and support to clients with substance abuse and addiction issues, utilizing a client-centred and trauma-informed approach.

    • Facilitate group therapy sessions and educational workshops to address addiction-related topics and promote recovery.

  2. Program Development and Planning:

    • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and refine in-patient and out-patient addiction treatment programs.

    • Conduct research and stay updated on best practices in addiction counseling and programdevelopment.

    • Contribute to the design and implementation of program components, such as therapy modules, treatment protocols, and discharge planning.

    • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the effective delivery of addiction treatment services. Familiarity with licensing requirements is considered an asset.

  3. Program Evaluation and Improvement:

    • Monitor program outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of addiction treatment interventions.

    • Collect and analyze data to identify areas for program improvement and make recommendations for enhancement.

    • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and implement strategies for continuous program evaluation and quality improvement.

    • Stay informed about emerging trends and evidence-based practices in addiction treatment.

  4. Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Care:

    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to provide integrated care to clients.

    • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and treatment planning sessions to discuss client progress and coordinate care.

    • Consult and collaborate with team members regarding client care and treatment approaches.

    • Foster effective communication and teamwork to ensure comprehensive and coordinated addiction treatment.

  5. Documentation and Record Keeping

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, documenting assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant information.

    • Adhere to legal and ethical standards of confidentiality and privacy in all documentation practices

    • Complete required documentation in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

  6. Professional Conduct:

    • Conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner, maintaining appropriate boundaries and

      professional relationships with clients and colleagues.

An ideal candidate should possess a working knowledge of several treatment modalities particularly abstinence-based treatment strategies. Areas such as trauma informed counselling, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will be considered assets.

Experience in assessment and discharge summaries, as well as report writing is vital in this position. You will take part in team treatment planning meetings and must be able to communicate effectively with peers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Certification or licensure as an Addiction Counselor (e.g., Certified Addiction Counselor, Registered Addiction Counselor) preferred.

  • Registration with a College or Professional Association. Experience in providing addiction counseling services, including individual and group therapy.

  • Basic knowledge of community resources and case management skills;

  • Competency with computer skills, MS office, Electronic Medical Records

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in addiction counseling and treatment.

  • Strong program development and planning skills.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in addiction treatment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
